I want to start writing some articles on motorcycling, how oppos should get more into it and what not, how its not actually that dangerous, etc etc

Everytime I think of a new topic, I check over on lane splitter and Wes has JUST posted an article on it.

DAM IT WES GET OUT OF MY HEAD

here, have a piture of the last bike craze, the Ducati scrambler. this is a concept, and one where they actually mounted the exhaust right :P

You should write up the article on oppo, I want to get into motorcycles but I'm still having second thoughts about them.

Wes is abrasive though. His whole shtick is 'if you don't ride you're an idiot'.

If you wrote in a less adversarial tone it would compliment his stuff even if you retreaded on topics.

How beautiful. After my neighbor came home with a Honda Super 90, I thought it would never get any better. Then my other neighbor came home with a 305 Scrambler. I was smitten.

Not only that, but he thinks that if you get in an accident it was probably 100% avoidable.

Eh? I actually bought a bike this year and it's the cheapest motorsport thing I did:

$2300 - '01 Katana 600 (4700 miles)

$150 - (I think?) insurance for the year

$80 - registration/plates/inspection (roughly)

$80 - jacket with armor

$20 - decent gloves with some armor

$90 - good riding shoes (alpinestars)

$100 - full face helmet

TL:DR - Get a bike for ~$2K, insurance/plates maybe $300, gear maybe $300

Granted the bike is the big expensive but insurance and gear is really not that much. Oh, and all my stuff was bought new on the internet, I could have gone cheaper with used gear off craigslist (bad idea for a helmet).

Have you taken a motorcycle class? That's the best thing I can recommend. Spend about $250 and 16 hours in the class and learning to ride and then decide if you want to or not. That's what I did and you will essentially make the $250 back on insurance savings if you continue.

!?!??! Where the hell are YOU!!?

I say $150, it might have been $250 or somewhere in between, can't remember exactly. I'm in Worcester, MA so not exactly known for low insurance. It is my 2nd policy (also have cars) with Progressive, and I completed my MSF course - and it's an old bike (2001 Suzuki) so maybe that's why?? My driving record is certainly nothing to be proud of so that's not it.

canada. Richmond hill (5 min north of toronto) specifically. if i remember, we have some of the highest rates in canada (and canada has high rates to being with).

I have all of the courses completed too.

granted, my bike is a 2008, but still.
Man, i fucking HATE canadian insurance

Not yet, I want to take a MSF course. Its convincing my parents and not worrying that every driver is trying to kill you.

Yeah, the convincing parents/spouse thing is hard part a lot of times.

If nothing else, you could take the course and tell them that the course is 100% safe, as they make you were enough protective gear like ankle covering boots, gloves, etc.. and you never really get above 30mph on a closed course so the chance for injury there is almost nill.
